Crushed green coffee beans

Coffea Robusta L.

Constitution

Raw green coffee comes from the famous coffee plant, of which there are many varieties but only a few are edible. It is the same coffee known to everyone, the same beans, not roasted but only dried. It differs from classic coffee both for organoleptic characteristics of color, taste, aroma and for nutritional characteristics. The variety robusta compared to arabica has a slightly higher content both in caffeine and chlorogenic acid.

Composition

In green coffee, methylxanthines are present, especially caffeine, which however is contained in a lower percentage compared to roasted coffee and, more importantly, chemically bound to chlorogenic acid (an ester of caffeic acid), which reduces absorption times and dilutes blood concentration gradually. This progressive absorption implies a slower metabolism, longer half-life of the molecule, and fewer side effects, which is why green coffee is better tolerated than roasted coffee by caffeine-sensitive individuals. In addition to methylxanthines and chlorogenic acid, other antioxidant substances are present.

Properties

Methylxanthines are molecules with lipolytic activity on hypertrophic white adipocytes of adipose tissue and promote the release of fatty acids, thus reducing the volume and weight of the adipocytes themselves. The released fatty acids must be used by the body, and to have an effect on body weight, it is useful to reduce the daily energy intake and perform moderate physical activity. As a result, green coffee can be used as an aid in weight loss during diets aimed at reducing body weight. Thanks to the caffeine content, the use of green coffee can lead to better conditions of attention, vigilance, and clarity. Green coffee also contains ferulic acid, tannic acid, polyphenols, minerals, and vitamins that provide strong antioxidant properties.

Preparation

It is recommended to put a teaspoon of crushed green coffee beans in a cup of water at about 85°C and let it infuse for about 5 minutes. Filter and drink like a normal herbal infusion.

Contraindications

As a precaution, due to the presence of caffeine, its use is not recommended during pregnancy and in cases where stimulating substances should be avoided.
