Harvest 2023 Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan Ruby 18 is the name of the cultivar of this black tea from the beautiful area of Sun Moon Lake, in central Taiwan. It is a hybrid cultivar between a Burmese Assamica camellia and a local Taiwanese one. Since its cultivation began in 1999, this tea has quickly gained worldwide appreciation for its distinctive notes of cinnamon, mint, and dark chocolate. A long but successful endeavor. The Taiwan Tea Research Center Station took about 40 years to develop this cultivar, aiming to expand the offering of high-quality Taiwanese teas. Not only finely crafted Oolong, but also black tea.
Its leaves are long and resemble the shapes of a Chinese dragon, just like some oolongs.
The Ruby 18 black tea is complicated to process and cultivate, and its market demand is constantly increasing, making it a highly sought-after tea and significantly raising its cost. For its preparation, we recommend, as always, water with low mineral content, 90° Gong Fu Cha extraction method in a gaiwan or Western method with 3-4 minutes of infusion.
