DARJEELING 1° FLUSH 2025 EX1
-BADAMTAN-

Darjeeling Badamtan First Flush Tea: Description

This year, to accompany Terza Luna's selection of Darjeeling teas, we decided to enrich ourselves with a garden that impressed us greatly for the quality of the harvest. The garden is called Badamtan, located in the Lebong valley about 17km from Darjeeling city.
Its tea bushes are spread over very steep slopes ranging from 300 to 1800 meters in altitude.
These large differences in level also result in a very high temperature variation between day and night, which is one of the characteristics that positively influences the harvest.

The peculiarity of this Darjeeling Steinthal tea is undoubtedly the harvest period, it is one of the very first ever, marked by the designation EX1. What does EX1 mean?

In the Indian region of Darjeeling, the leaf harvest period is very important because it determines price and quality, as also happens in other countries, but they are not as organized as the Indians.
Here, in fact, each harvest batch is marked with a different designation.
The very first harvest is marked with the code EX1, then there is EX2, these usually correspond to a period varying between mid and late April.
After that, it starts with the codes DJ (which stands for Darjeeling), starting from DJ1 up to DJ8 or 9.
It goes without saying that in this case, DJ1 will be the batch harvested first and therefore normally with the best quality.
As time progresses, the leaves will have absorbed more sun and water, and their infusion will be affected in taste, shifting towards less floral notes.

All that's left is to try this fantastic Darjeeling EX1, the other Darjeelings of this year are DJ1 batches, you can find them here

How to Prepare Darjeeling Badamtan Tea?

The preparation of tea is something that is not standardized which is why you will always find similar but often slightly different information.
It must certainly be the result of some general information (water temperature, infusion time, and quantity of leaves), but there are many other variables that influence it (type of water, environment, utensils used, presence of the person preparing it).

That said, for such delicate teas as Darjeelings, where it is of great importance to be able to perceive the most delicate notes, the advice is to use:

  1. Not too hot water (80° will be fine)
  2. Maximum 2 minutes of infusion
  3. 3g of Darjeeling Steinthal leaves per cup

These parameters can always be modified to obtain stronger or weaker infusions!
